Re: theater being at a nadir--a local theater did a production of "Waiting for Godot" and I thought, wow, that's an interesting pick. But the ad copy for the production said something like (paraphrased) "this new Godot explores (!) friendship and resilience (!!)" yeah ok..uh...
I guess MFA programs do some serious work on getting people to insert NGO-esque themes into everything they do. Apparently it's the only way now to get grants.
